Elati

Village Elati or Tyrna (old name) is one of the most beautiful mountain resorts in Greece. Located in the southern part of the Pindos mountain in the prefecture of Trikala and 32km from the city of Trikala. At an altitude of 920 meters on Mount Koziakas (Kerketio), Elati is built amphitheater in the dense forest of fir trees.

There are no reports of the foundation date of Elati, but according to tradition lived a few years after the fall of Istanbul. This is testified by the various Byzantine findings. The current location of the village is new. The village before 1943 was to the west and near to the river until this year when Elati burned by the Germans.
 

On the way from Trikala, don't miss to visit the Byzantine church of Porta Panagia built in 1283 in the town of Pili and the arched bridge over the River Portaikos, built in 1514 by St. Bessarion. In the area there are many monasteries. The Monasteries of St. Bessarion and Monastery Gouras are both open during all the year in Pili.

The visitor in Elati can deal with many mountain activities. For the winter months after 7Km on the way to Pertouli village there is Pertouli ski resort. For spring and summer, there are many hiking trails through woods with springs and small meadows, a large network of forest roads for touring by car, motorcycle, mountain bike, even on horseback. Very closed to Elatithere are is Kokkinos Vrachos (or Red Rock) whare there are several rock climbing routes. Under the highest peak Koziaka (Chatzipetros summit 1901m) at the altitude of 1738m there is a mountain refuge with 20 beds. The rivers of the region you can fish trout and to swim into the cold and crystal clear waters.
